Based in Southern California, Wave Neuroscience Inc. develops noninvasive neuromodulation treatments and technologies that target and enhance brain waves' synchrony to improve patients' cognitive health. While much of brain research has focused on the chemical aspects of the brain, the company researches brain waves, the electric currents produced by the brain. Wave Neuroscience Inc.’s approach involves using electroencephalography (EEG) tests to study brain electrical activity and understand each client’s cognitive condition.
An EEG scan is a test used to study and record electrical activity in an individual's brain to detect any abnormal activity in brain wave patterns. Small metal discs connected to thin wire electrodes are placed on a patient’s scalp to conduct the scan. These discs monitor brain wave patterns and then send the information gathered to a computer for recording.
Typically, doctors use EEG tests to detect any unusual electrical activity in the brain that may cause specific seizure disorders like epilepsy. However, these scans could also help analyze stroke, sleep disorders, brain tumors, brain activity after head injuries, and brain inflammation. Furthermore, they are useful in determining the right level of anesthesia for coma patients.
The different types of EEG tests include the sleep EEG, ambulatory EEG, video telemetry, and routine EEG. Generally, these procedures are safe, with no dangerous side effects.
